Alabama extensions
Every state's rule in one table: which states accept the federal extension in 2026.
| Does Alabama accept the federal extension? | Not needed. The state extends everyone automatically. |
|---|---|
| Original due date | April 15, 2026 |
| Extended due date | October 15, 2026 |
| Payment | Still due April 15, 2026. The extension is to file, not to pay. There is no extension for payments; pay any tax due with Form 40V by April 15 or interest and applicable penalties accrue. |
| How to get it | Nothing to file; the six-month extension is granted automatically, and any payment is made with Form 40V or through My Alabama Taxes. |
ALDOR also states Alabama provides an automatic extension whenever there is a corresponding federal extension, so the federal Form 4868 is effectively honored; no Alabama form exists.
Source: revenue.alabama.gov, read September 3, 2026. “You will automatically be granted an automatic six-month extension until October 15th to file. NO EXTENSION FORM (PAPER OR ELECTRONIC) IS REQUIRED TO BE FILED.”
