LucaLedger vs TaxDome

The short answer LucaLedger and TaxDome both give accounting firms a white-label portal, workflow, and e-signatures. The difference: TaxDome is a practice-management layer that still requires a separate tax engine and QuickBooks, while LucaLedger keeps the books, prepares the returns (1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065), and runs tax strategy in one platform. Choose TaxDome for a mature client portal and same-season e-filing; choose LucaLedger to consolidate the whole stack.

The quick verdict

If your tax engine and bookkeeping tools are settled and you just need a strong front office, TaxDome does it well. If you're tired of paying for and reconciling three systems, LucaLedger collapses them into one, and that's the entire reason it exists.

Read the table top to bottom and the pattern is clear: the rows where they match are the front office (portal, workflow, e-sign, documents). The rows where LucaLedger pulls ahead are the actual work, the ledger, the return, the financials, the strategy, because TaxDome was never built to do those; it hands them to other software. For the cost angle, see the stack breakdown on our TaxDome alternative page.

Switching is more straightforward than firms expect, but it's an honest rebuild, not a one-click import:

Frequently asked questions

Is LucaLedger a true TaxDome replacement?

For most firms, yes, and then some. It covers the portal, workflow, engagement letters, and e-signatures you use TaxDome for, and adds the bookkeeping, tax preparation, financials, and strategy that TaxDome leaves to other software. The one thing to plan around is e-filing, which arrives in November 2026.

Does TaxDome prepare tax returns?

No. TaxDome imports finished returns from your tax software and collects the e-signature; preparation and e-filing happen in that other software. LucaLedger prepares the return itself.

Which has better AI, LucaLedger or TaxDome?

They target different jobs. TaxDome AI organizes documents by tagging and renaming. LucaLedger's AI categorizes transactions, keeps the books, and assists with return preparation.

Is LucaLedger cheaper than TaxDome?

We don't publish pricing, schedule a demo for a figure scoped to your firm. Note that with TaxDome you also pay for a separate tax engine and QuickBooks, both of which LucaLedger includes.

Is LucaLedger SOC 2 compliant?

LucaLedger is SOC 2 ready, controls and evidence are in place, data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and firms and clients are isolated at the row level.

Can I keep my clients on QuickBooks?

Yes. The QuickBooks sync is two-way, so you can leave clients on QuickBooks Online and work in LucaLedger, or replace it when ready. No forced migration.

How we compare: based on each vendor's public documentation and pricing, hands-on use, and LucaLedger's capabilities as of June 2026. We build LucaLedger and have worked to represent TaxDome fairly. Last updated June 2026.
